If I could dO anything in math class To improve my learning it would be the ability to look at a problem and just know how to solve it. I think that would just be the neatest thing. It would make for so much less stress when I miss math class And am gone the next day. Also for tests and quizzes if I did not know the answer it would help me tO solve those tough ones. It is also nice to get that good feeling that you can pick up what's going in math class before the teacher even gets to it.

Journal Entry

I am sitting in the library of our school right now and there are many shapes around me! The clock in the room which is a circle. The shape of our keyboard is a rectangle. Our mouse pad is a circle. The bottom of our study hall chairs are blue squares. The little purple flower thing on the wall is held in a cone like shape as the bottom.  So many shapes!

I believe that there are many things that I can do in class to be more productive. On some days I do not feel like taking notes and participating in class and other days I find it to be easy. So I can always work on being more productive and focused while in class. I learned that in order to understand something for the most part I just have to be able to see how it is done. I have a hard time just learning by hearing the math problems worked out instead I like to see them being done right in front of me. I will have to keep that in mind for the future because for college I’m sure they will do either  one not both so I will have to learn to be able to work out problems by just hearing them.

I would probably start the same way you start our classes right now. I would have the class do two warm up problems one with a review of what we did yesterday and the second one as an introduction to what we are doing that day. Next I would verbally give the definitions of direct variation inverse and others and if they wanted to write them down they could do so. Next just as you, start off with the easier problems and gradually progress and get harder while doing and checking examples on the way. Lastly when I felt they understood it I would give three problems and have them do it in there notebook and have me check them and then they could work on their homework.

This week we started direct variation It is such a complication. After we find x What comes next? We come to the conclusion that we need to find a solution. That was easy and fun now lets do another one.

poem

Once upon a time I was asked to write a poem for math.
However my writing skills are not the best.
I figure if everything will rhyme.
I will be fine.

We started direct variation this week
since I am not a geek
I tend to be quite weak.

Using rational equations is something new
I am finding to have a whole new view
on what do to.

I hope you thought this poem was fun.
However I have to be done
Study hall is over and I must be on a run.

I feel that my math work most of the time is the opposite of neat. I try, I really do try to make it look nice and neat but by the end of the assignment it just doesn’t happen!  I think there are many positive reasons as to why one would want to have their math homework neat.  First it would be easier for the teacher to follow while looking over or correcting the assignment. Also if a student had questions on the assignment it would help them be able to find their mistakes instead of being lost in their work.  And lastly it could screw up the final answer and turn out in an incorrect one!  I will try harder to keep my work neat on the math assignments from now on! I promise Ms. Yo!!!

When I study for a test the first thing I do is make note cards. The only classes I make note cards for is History and sometimes sociology! After I memorize the note cards I sometimes have my parents read them for me so I don’t cheat on the ones I don’t actually know.  Otherwise for other classes I just review the notes the teachers have given us. If I am completely unsure I do read the chapter again but that doesn’t happen often. I will be honest for most tests I do not study for. Sorry this was not very helpful or a good answer but I did my best!

It is important to learn about factoring because in order to keep moving on in our alegebra two math class we have to learn how to do it. Including in this new section. It still involves the concept of factoring polynomials even when we are dividing them. Also many jobs that we can get in the future involve factoring as well. Some of these jobs may include math teacher, physics teacher, working in NASA and others. Factoring will stay with us until college and in some cases after the fact. There are some things that we learn in math that will never leave us and factoring just happens to be one of them.

My math slogan would have to be math plus you equals champion. Now to me that pretty much sums it up! In order to get anywhere in life or aka be a champion you have to be able to do math. Math is involved in our everyday lives and the better we are at it the easier our lives will be, kind of. I chose this slogan because when I think of champion I think of sports. This gets me more motivated to try harder in class because in order to be a champion in spots you have to work for it. I hope that it would be able to help others to be motivated as well.

when i was in second grade i always liked to do the timed math tests. i always like the competiveness of it and trying my best to improve. it was also a lot of fun to compete with the kids around you and see either who got the most wrong or who finished in the fastest time. i believe that they were able to help us improve our math multiplication a great deal because it was a fun way that kept us interested. and as the years progressed those test would become harder and harder with more questions and a much more varity of questions aswell.

There are many different places that we can see math in the news. Some of the most recent examples that are happening nearby are the different basketball stats as the regional games are just beginning.  These are different math ratios and percents based on a player or teams shooting percentages, rebounds, steals and such. Also there are different polls and surveys that are happening that include making different plots and tables to display the data. Some newspapers even include puzzles that can be math related and hard core thinking! As you can see math continues to be everywhere and in many different forms!

On a scale of one to ten the importance of neatness and organization to me is probably a seven. It is considered a seven to me because I find it to be important but I’m not the best at it. Being organized and neat can help in daily life in pretty much anything a person does. It, in a sense, can make life just a little bit easier because it is one less thing to worry about. It is especially important during school including math class. If a person is organized they are able to get all homework in on time and study for tests to maintain better grades. These are just of few reasons why I believe it is important to be neat and organized.

One of the math activities I used to enjoy a lot was the game around the world! It was so much fun! How it works is there is a bunch of flash cards with different math problems on them. One person stands up and moves around in a circle and challenges people in order of seats. The person who is able to say the answer first is the winner who then moves on. When we were younger we used to keep track of who won the most times and then that person would get a piece of candy. It was so exciting. It helped me learn and remember my easy addition, subtraction, division and multiplication. It is important to learn because all of these concepts are used in everyday life in everything we do!

One of the hardest things that i have found that we have done this year is the story problems for graphing inequality.  The first thing to do in this math problem is to read the story problem over once. Then read it over again and write down what you know. For most of the problems that we have  done this year there has been five inequalities as well as an equation that the problems have come up with. Next, after getting the inequalitys graph all five of them on one graph and bold the points of intersection. Next record them down and put them into the equation that you came up with at the begining. Lastly whatever one best fits the problem based on the answer is the one that is choosen.

My best kept secrets about math are that sometimes i can actually find it to be pretty interesting. Most of the time when doing math i find it to be a pain and tend to not like the things that we are doing. But sometimes, however, i actually find it interesting and fun to do. For the most part when i dont understand something i tend not to like it at all and find it to be a pain to do. Resulting in me not wanting to try as hard on it rather than try to figure it out and completely finish the problem. So as you can see i do have a couple of little math secrets that i have just shared with you.

Math will stay with us forever after we graduate high school and college. My plans following high school is to graduate college and go into psychiatry. Im not quite sure what math is all involved but i assume like most other jobs there is hidden math involved. I will use math when i am shopping to figure discounts and the new total of objects. i will probably use it in presentations in the future to show charts and graphs and stuff like that. As you can see math is never leaving me anytime soon!

If I could be the teacher for the day I think there would be many things that i would like to do. I would probably start with some fun game that would wake people up and get all there talkingness out! Then assuming I was a math tacher and had to get something done and would go on with teaching the lesson. For examples I  would have some people go up to the board and show how they got their answer because as you know everything is way more fun when its done on a white board. Thinking that i only had about 10 minutes left in class i would pair everyone up with partner and have them work with a partner on their homework to make sure there was no other questions while comparing answers. And the rest would be for them to finish at home. The End!

i would have to say that if there was a word that we have learned this year that will help us is equation. Yes it is a very easy and simple term but yet it is ever so important to our daily math life. An equation is the problem we use to set up to find the correct answer. (in my own words) if there is no equation given, in some cases the answer may be almost impossible to find. if there are certain numbers in the equation we dont have there is no possible way to come up with the correct solution. that is why i choose equation as my word for this weeks journal.
